The purpose of the internship program is for students to not only learn about the meaning of working, but also to gain learning and insights about what kind of workers are needed by society, enabling them to further enrich their career paths and student lives. List of Programs General Internship Programs Faculty-Specific Programs Overseas Internship Program Faculty of Economics and Business Administration GIP (Long-term overseas internship)(Japanese) AIP (Long-term domestic internship)(Japanese) Aviation and Tourism Course Faculty of Humanities Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences Faculty of Engineering (Capstone Project) Domestic Internship Program There are two main types of internship programs that KUAS offers (both are credit-eligible courses). General Programs: Programs for students of all years and faculties. Faculty-Specific Programs: Programs that are limited to certain faculties or departments and focus on deepening students’ knowledge in their field of study. General Program Annual Schedule All students are eligible to apply for the General Program. In April, the Internship Center will host information sessions, and students will be matched with their internship placements after going through a screening process. Before the internship commences, preliminary classes are held where students conduct company and industry research as well as practice business manners to deepen their understanding and prepare them for their placement. Students then undertake their internship for between 2 weeks to 1 month during their summer vacation. In the follow-up classes after the internship, students reflect on their experiences from various perspectives and present their learning, insights, and future goals during the final presentation session. One feature of our program is this long-term process of preliminary and follow-up lessons, along with the final presentations, which allow for additional opportunities for learning and growth. Former participants have praised the program, with comments including: “I learned things that were only possible from the field, broadening my future horizons.” ”I was able to discover what skills were needed for my future career, as well as my current strengths and weaknesses.” Overseas Internship Program The Overseas Internship Program started in the 2019 academic year to help students develop the skills needed to play leading roles in the world. Students spend between 2 weeks to a month abroad and experience working in business settings. Host organizations include Japanese companies and local businesses, across a variety of regions including North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia. For the 2023 program, the relaxing of international travel restrictions allowed all of our overseas internships to be conducted in-person, resulting in students interning at 19 organizations across 10 countries: Australia, Canada, China, India, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam. Domestic Internship Program Students participating in the domestic internship program experience internships with corporations, government organizations, and non-profit organizations that support Japan. We partner with organizations in a wide range of industries, including government, finance, manufacturing, food, IT, customer service, consulting, sports, and agriculture. Every year we are expanding and developing programs, providing opportunities for students of all departments to apply their studies. In the 2023 academic year, more than 200 students participated in internships at different companies and industries of interest. Many international students also participated for the first time, providing them with an opportunity to experience working at a Japanese firm. Final Presentations All participants (over 200 students) from both the overseas and domestic internships gathered at the Sagano Hall at Uzumasa Campus to present on the conclusion of the four-month internship program. The presentations were heard by an audience comprised of the fellow students and professors, as well as by representatives of many of the host organizations.
