MENU Why GLA People Academics Advising Admission and Aid Student Life Career Support My GLA Virtual Tour Visit Contact GLA Home Academics Policies and Procedures Academic Warning [Scope and Rationale] Cohort A and Cohort B students enrolled in the GLA courses are subject to the Academic Warning rules addressed in this policy. [Definitions] 1. Academic Warning – students are on the Academic Warning status when: A)students were enrolled in at least one (1) GLA course in the preceding semester, and; B) students' Semester GPA based on the GLA course(s) registered during the preceding semester is 2.49 or below. 2. Semester GPA – includes credits in all courses graded “A+” through “F.” Credits for repeated courses      are still calculated in the Semester GPA. Courses withdrawn during the preceding semester are not        calculated in the Semester GPA. A cumulative GPA is not used to determine the Academic Warning          status. [Policy Statement] The college assesses the Academic Warning status following each semester. This assessment will be conducted as soon as grades become available to students, but the specific schedule may become subject to change each semester. The college’s Academic Advising Center holds the right to determine the schedule of the assessment and outreach. Students on Academic Warning must meet with an academic advisor to discuss his/her academic standing. An advisor will help students plan a course schedule and a series of actions they are to take to improve their academic performance. Students on Academic Warning will be able to self-register only after this meeting and must complete registration following the standard registration policies, procedures, and due dates. Accordingly, students are fully responsible and encouraged to schedule the appointment as soon as they receive an advisor’s outreach and complete the meeting before the registration period. Being unable to self-register in time due to tardiness in scheduling an appointment with an advisor is students’ responsibility. Academic Warning status does not affect courses auto-registered by the GLA Office. [Procedure] 1. An academic advisor contacts students through the Academic Advising Database as soon as their grades from the preceding semester are available. The advisor’s outreach occurs on the day the grades become available or shortly afterward, according to the schedule determined by the Academic Advising Center. 2. As soon as they receive an advisor’s outreach, students should work on the “Warning Pre-Worksheet,” to be provided along with the outreach message, to analyze the underlying factors that have led them to the Academic Warning status and develop specific action plans to improve their performance. 3. When the “Warning Pre-Worksheet” is completed, students should submit it to an advisor along with their appointment request through the Appointment Request Form via the college website. 4. When the meeting with an advisor is completed, the GLA Office will unlock the self-registration feature for students.
