Her publications include The New Argonauts: Regional Advantage in a Global Economy (Harvard, 2006); Regional Advantage: Culture and Competition in Silicon Valley and Route 128 (Harvard, 1994); Silicon Valley's New Immigrant Entrepreneurs (Public Policy Institute of California, 1999); and Local and Global Networks of Immigrant Professionals in Silicon Valley (PPIC, 2002). She holds a Ph.D. in political science from MIT, a master's in regional planning from UC Berkeley, and a B.A. in economics from Williams College. Presentation [PDF:1.41MB] Bio Mr. Feng Jun is Chief Executive Officer of Beijing Huaqi Information (aigo) Digital Technology, the number one consumer electronics company in China. He started aigo in 1993 with two employees and built it into the international brand that it is today. He was awarded CCTV's Businessman of the Year Innovation Award in 2006 and named a member of the prestigious World Economic Forum Young Global Leader group in 2007. He graduated from the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University and has an Executive MBA from the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University. Currently, Mr. Feng is working towards a Ph.D. in psychology from Beijing Normal University. Close OKAMOTO Tomohiko (President, NABEYA Co. Ltd., Japan) Presentation [PDF:1.39MB] Bio Mr. Okamoto joined Nabeya Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of casting products with a history of 450 years in the industry, in May 1989. He became managing director in 1991 and assumed his current position of president in 1995. He is also president of group companies; Okamoto Corporation, Nabeya Seiki Co., Ltd., SANAI OKAMOTO CO., LTD. and MICRODENTO CO., LTD. In addition, Mr. Okamoto serves on many committees and boards, including the Gifu City Board of Education (1999-); he is committee member of NHK's Consultative Committees on Programs, Chubu Region (2006-); auditor of Ichigokan Co.,Ltd.(2003-), Gifu Newspaper (2006-), and MIE CORPORATION CO., LTD (2007-); board member of the Association of Labor Standards in Gifu Corp. (2003-); and chairman of the Society of Gifu Machinery and Metal Corporations (2009- present). Close AnnaLee SAXENIAN (Dean of School of Information (I School) and Professor (I School and Dept. of City and Regional Planning), University of California, Berkeley)) Greg SO (Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) Bio Mr. So was appointed as Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 1 June 2008. The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau is responsible for various policy matters including Hong Kong's external commercial relations, inward investment promotion, intellectual property protection, industry and business support, tourism, consumer protection, competition, broadcasting, film- related issues, creative industries, development of telecommunications, innovation and technology etc.Before the appointment, Mr. So was a practicing solicitor. He previously served as the Vice- chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong; Board Member of Hong Kong Housing Authority; Council Member of Lingnan University; Member of Commission on Strategic Development; and member of the District Council of Wong Tai Sin District. Tambunan is also economic advisor for the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia). In the last 10 years, he has been involved as a national consultant and associated researcher for a number of international agencies such as ILO, UNDP, UNIDO, ADB, World Bank, JETRO, UNESCAP and many others on industrial and SME development issues. Dr. Tambunan holds a Ph.D. in economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He was also researcher for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva, which annually publishes The Global Competitiveness Report . Additionally, he has been appointed as editorial board member or reviewer of a number of international business journals such as the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship , the Journal of Asian Business , the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship , and the African Journal of Business and Management .
