I studied abroad in Canada and Combodia in my 20s. The experiences of living in two societies, one so-called developed and the other developing, have saped who I am today. In particular, they have enhaced my touhness, resilience, and comparative perspectives. Firstly, I am generally not afraid of taking risks by stepping outside my comfort zone and to overcome phycological fear. I learnt to enjoy the process of making mistakes and growing in the process (toughness). Secondly, I became better at adaptig to inconveniences, uncomfortableness, or adversitied (reslience). Thirdly, I can be very critical about Japanese society (comparative perspective). I have completed my postgraduate degrees at the University of Melbourne and taught Japanese language to wonderful Australian people in Melbourne.  Also, I have been working with our colleagues in our partner institutions all around the world and supporting hundreds of students who have accomplished/are going to accomplish studying abroad. I am also involved in advising prospective/returned study abroad students, and supervising students' activities at BBP (Beyond Borders Plaza) which aim to promote intercultural encounters and interactions among domestic and international students on campus. "Culture" is not only about national and linguistic boundaries. I encourage students to "notice and question their assumptions and preconceptions", "explore new perspectives and alternative realities", and "acknowledge and understand commonalities and differences" among themselves so that they learn to appreciate diverse selves and build positive relationships with one another.
